Dental Crowns in Islington

Crowns are ideal restorations for teeth that have been broken or weakened by decay or by a very large filling. The NHS confirms that crowns can be used where a tooth has been broken or damaged.

A crown could be used for a number of other reasons:

  • You may have discoloured fillings and would like to improve the appearance of the tooth.
  • You may have had a root filling, which may require a crown to protect what remains of the tooth. The NHS notes that a crown may be needed after root canal treatment.
  • It may help support a bridge or other dental restoration.

Dental crowns can be made from metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, zirconia or ceramic materials. The most appropriate option will depend on the position of the tooth, your bite and the appearance required.

We will prepare the tooth to the ideal shape and take an impression or digital scan of the prepared tooth. The dentist will also select an appropriate shade and provide any other necessary information for the restoration.

A temporary crown may be made while the final restoration is being produced, mainly to protect the prepared tooth and maintain its appearance. The final restoration is usually fitted at a later appointment once you and your dentist are happy with its fit and appearance.

For suitable cases, same-day crowns can instead be designed, made and fitted in a single visit using CEREC technology.

Posterior Crown

The tooth is prepared, and a crown is then fabricated and fitted to it.

Bonded Crown

The crown has a metal base with a porcelain coating.

Anterior Crown

The crown can be made from natural-looking, biocompatible ceramic materials. Angel Smile also offers ceramic restorations for damaged or heavily restored teeth.

Crown Margin

Over time, the gum can recede away from the crown, making the crown margin more visible. Depending on the condition of the tooth and existing crown, your dentist can advise whether replacement or another treatment is appropriate.
