Types of Dental Bridges

dental bridges explained Islington

A bridge is one option for replacing a missing tooth, depending on the condition of the adjacent teeth.

The modern way to replace a missing tooth is with a dental implant in London, which does not require filing or damaging adjacent teeth, respecting the individuality and independence of each tooth.

A bridge can last as long as the teeth underneath are not in trouble.

Conventional Bridge

A conventional bridge is made by placing crowns on the teeth on either side of the space (Retainers) and then joining these two crowns with a false tooth on top of the space (Pontic). This is all made in the laboratory, and then the pieces are cemented into place with special adhesives. ( We can make high-quality ceramic bridges using our in-house CAD CAM technology. This bridge is very strong; however, it needs grinding of neighbouring teeth, which is not the best option when they are intact.

An implant, in this case, is a better option

Adhesive Bridge

An adhesive bridge has wings that are bonded to the back of the supporting teeth with minimal drilling.

Bridges are only possible if you have strong teeth with good bone support. Bridges were made of porcelain bonded to precious metal, but our modern bridges are made entirely of a special type of strong porcelain (Metal-free full ceramic).

Fiber Bridge

Sometimes the best way to replace a missing tooth is to utilise the existing fillings in adjacent teeth. These fillings are removed, and matching ‘wings’ will be made and attached to the middle unit (pontic), fit and bonded into the spaces in adjacent teeth.

Maryland and Rochette Bridge

They are made of a ceramic artificial tooth attached to a metal wing (flat or perforated), which can be cemented to the back of adjacent teeth. A minimally invasive solution can be used as a semi-permanent or transitional restoration to cover the gap during the implant integration period.
