Why Root Canal Needed?

Root canal treatment is needed when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue, becomes inflamed or infected. This can happen due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth. A root canal procedure is performed to remove the infected or damaged pulp, clean the inside of the tooth, and seal it to prevent further infection. This helps save the natural tooth and alleviates pain and discomfort caused by the infection.

Most Frequently Asked Questions About Root Canal

A root canal is a procedure to treat an infected or damaged tooth’s pulp, saving the natural tooth.

The procedure is under local numbness and pain free. It relieves toothache.

The procedure typically takes one and in some cases two sessions of each 1.5-2 hours, depending on the tooth’s complexity.

Alternatives to root canal include tooth extraction or leaving the infection untreated, but saving the natural tooth is preferred for dental health.

Risks are minimal, but there can be rare complications like reinfection or a cracked tooth with the need for extraction.

Long-term success involves proper oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups, and protecting the treated tooth.

An endodontist is a specialized dentist with advanced training in diagnosing and treating complex dental issues, particularly related to root canals. Their expertise ensures the highest quality of care and better outcomes for your root canal treatment.

The cost of root treatment can vary depending on factors such as the tooth’s location, number of canals, and complexity. Typically, it ranges from £740 for front teeth to £840 for back teeth
